Exercises To Lose Weight – In the Gym and the Kitchen by Rob E Wilkins

Strange title eh ? – exercises to lose weight in the gym and the kitchen ?

This article looks at the bigger picture of weight loss and explains why there’s good habits and exercises needed in the gym and the kitchen for effective weight loss.

First a bit of history about us as humans. Through evolution we have developed our digestion over thousands of years to efficiently extract the most nutrients and calories available from a varied plant and animal based food supply.

We have the ability to store short term and long term energy as glycogen (stored carbohydrate) and body fat from our evolved need over time to survive periods of famine and short food supply. (see my article on fat loss abs for sale about fat storage Fat Loss, Abs for Sale )

As early humans we would gather and hunt and take every opportunity to put on fat when food was plentiful. This was balanced by some periods of scare supply and lots of exercise and we were unlikely to become too overweight or unfit.

Now before I go any further let me start by saying regular exercise is good for us and essential for a healthy lifestyle and effective weight loss plan.

Here’s the point though – The amount of exercise required to burn calories from food is considerable compared to the time it takes to acquire and consume it, especially with our modern food availability, low cost and high refinement of carbohydrates.

Let’s put this in perspective :- For example , take a small chocolate bar of 200 calories, it could take a slow jog of twenty to thirty minutes to burn this many calories. A pint of average beer at 200 calories could need a similar exertion or an hours walk maybe.

Reducing calories through diet is essential as moderate exercise alone is not likely to be sufficient to lose weight because of the sheer time involved, although if time is not a problem good luck !

The kitchen exercises I am referring to then are reading food and product calorie labels, reducing portion size, trying to eat less and more healthily and naturally.

Weigh your food when you cook, the amount may surprise you if you normally guess.

Count everything and if it helps keep a food diary to record your meals. If you don’t know how many calories are in your meal then find out.

Don’t believe that a trip to the gym or a run around the park gives you licence to not do these kitchen exercises as well!
